Silver naturally tarnishes with exposure to air and the environment. Additionally lotions, perfumes, bleach and chlorine all have adverse effects on the quality and look of any silver.
In order to ensure that tarnishing doesn’t spoil your silver jewellery, it is important to follow a few simple steps;
Apply any scents and lotions before you put it on.
Avoid wearing jewellery when doing sports or washing up.
We advise that you keep your jewellery in the pouch it came in or alternatively in a zip lock plastic bag this reduces the risk of scratching as well as tarnishing.
To keep your jewellery clean we recommend that you gently rub the item with a lint free cloth. Be very careful when cleaning chains and pieces with gems in.
OXIDISED SILVER JEWELLERY
When you purchase an oxidised piece, expect it to wear and polish up, exposing the true metal colour beneath. This will happen at varying speeds depending on how regularly the piece is worn and how much it rubs against clothes and skin.
Oxidisation is the chemical treatment of silver to change the surface colour to a grey/black colour. As with most surface treatments, oxidisation is not permanent and can wear off. This is however a unique and positive feature of oxidisation as it highlights details of the jewellery and wears to each person individually making the jewellery even more unique.
GOLD OR RHODIUM VERMEIL JEWELLERY
Gold Plating (also called gold vermeil) is a method of depositing a layer of 18ct gold onto the surface of silver through an electrochemical process.
Care should always be taken when cleaning gold plated jewellery to protect the layer of gold from being worn away or scratched. Although gold-plated jewellery will not tarnish over time like silver, the gold appearance may slightly fade depending on wear and exposure to chemicals and cosmetics.
We advise you follow the below instructions to care for your gold or black rhodium vermeil jewellery.
As with silver, we advise gold plated Jewellery not to be worn when showering or exercising. Preventing it from getting wet and keeping it away from harsh chemicals, lotions and perfumes will ensure its lasting quality.
Do not wear your jewellery at night and remove it for sports and water activities.
Due to the nature of gold-plating, we would not recommend you wear this piece everyday, for everyday wear consider purchasing this piece in solid gold or silver.
